25 Days of Fashion: December 25

Merry Christmas!!! It is quite depressing to know that we don't have anything left on our fashion advent calendar. Today, we have one of the items that I need to own before I die as well as a complete splurge. I have obssessed over these bedazzled Christian Louboutin's for years. Heels, sparkles, and red bottoms: a girl can't ask for much more. Even though they cost as much as a couple of months rent, I am still obsessed. They retail for $6395. My father would fall off his chair if he saw this. Guess I'll have to date wealthy! Christian Louboutins

25 Days of Fashion: December 24

I cannot believe it is Christmas Eve!! On today's tab is something I've been dying to try, Ciate nail polish. I am obsessed with nail polish, to the point that I feel naked without any on. Nail polish has almost become an accessory with the amount of colors and textures they have invented. This Ciate brand has two different kinds I want to try. The one is the 'velvet' and the other is 'caviar'. They add such interested textures to your nails. Plus, it has great advertising by showing the colors on lips. You can buy your own bottle at Sephora for $25 for the caviar and $19 for the velvet.                                Ciate Caviar Nail Polish               Ciate Velvet Nail Polish

25 Days of Fashion: December 23

Merry Christmas Eve's Eve! I feel like every girl needs at least one formal dress. Whether it be for a wedding, party, ect. you can always pull this number out from the back of your closet. You will need something simple and classic. These events are few and far between so you want to make sure what you have is always in style. Also, make it clean and simple so you can accessorize. This Contrarian dress can be brought at Shopbop.com for $425. I love this dress because it is sexy yet simple. The cutouts on the side and the completly open back is eye-catching. I love the black in this silk fabric since it makes it look so sleek. Shopbop Dress

25 Days of Fashion: December 22

With only four more days left, we have piece that  everyone uses, sunglasses! Sunglasses are a piece that everyone will need and seem to continually break. I am a glasses snob and will only wear my oversized 'bugeyed' glasses or aviators. A classic sunglass brand is Ray-Bans. You can purchase your Ray-Ban sunglasses for $145. 25 Days of Fashion: December 21

As I sat home on my Friday night watching Christmas movies, todays fashion is quite appropriate. Geek chic! Geeks are no longer the dorks that everyone makes fun of, it is a phenomenon! Everyone is channeling their inner geeks to rock this trend. My favorite way to dress like my inner dork is through geek chic glasses. Note, do not add tape to the middle. That just makes it geek! You can have your own pair from Forever 21 for $5.80Forever 21 Geek Chic Glasses

25 Days of Fashion: December 20

We are done to a single hand! Only five more days of our fashion calendar. We are paying homage to a winter classic and my favorite, an oversized sweater! I am loving oversized sweaters for this winter months. They make you feel totally comfortable yet chic. It's that look of 'I totally didn't try but in reality you spent an hour obsessing over your outfit.' You can buy your own comfy sweater for $59 at Urban Outfitters. Urban Outfitters Sweater

25 Days of Fashion: December 19

In this last week of our fashion calendar, we a dedicating today to a classic, the pencil skirt. The pencil skirt is perfect for the office but can be quite sexy. You need it tight enough to show off your assets, but not too tight you can't breath. Tuck in a button-up for the office or add a slinky tank for a night on the town. You can buy your own at Zara for $59.90. A classic you will want to invest in. Zara Pencil Skirt

25 Days of Fashion: December 18

It is insane to think we only have a week left for our fashion calendar. I like to think that what you wear under your clothes is almost as important as what you have on. I say almost because nobody gets to see what is underneath mine. Being confident is important. If all of a sudden your clothes fell off, it is important to have on nice undergarments. Plus having on cute bras can make you feel good. Having a good bra is no exception, plus it's no secret guys love boobs. A great bra gives support, cleavage, and maybe a bit more then you actually have. I personally love strapless and anything that is multi-way. Loving the Victoria Secret bras that range from $55-62. Victoria Secret Bra

25 Days of Fashion: December 17

Today's tab has something that is on my Christmas list. Being a city girl and student, I need my laptop with me at all times. I need a chic carrying case that is comfortable to walk with. I am obsessing over this Marc Jacobs laptop case. Along with being a case, it is a bag! Two for one. I love how chic and simple it is. You can purchase one for yourself at Neiman's for $118. They come in various colors, I am a personal fan of the black and cream colors. Marc Jacobs Laptop Case

25 Days of Fashion: December 16

On today's agenda is my favorite winter accessory: a scarf! I wear them around my neck, wrap them around my head, and even wrap them around my booty when I coach. For whatever reason they keep me so much warmer! They are the perfect way to accessorize an outfit as well. I am in love with this Michael Kors infinity scarf. Michael Kors Scarf

25 Days of Fashion: December 15

We only have a handful of days left! On today list we have skinny jeans. I love skinny jeans, as long as they aren't to skinny and I'm not having a fat day. These are the pair of pants that you love to wear but can't have that extra cupcake with. I love skinny jeans because they create a great line and they are easy to tuck into boots. Make sure that they are a dark wash. This will make the look more sophisticated and the darker color makes you look skinnier. Pick up a pair of these 7 Jeans for $189. Skinny 7 Jeans

25 Days of Fashion: December 14

On December 14, we have one of the comfiest and most versatile pair of pants a girl can wear. You may think you are in sweats but these pants can be totally chiced/ dressed up. I am talking about leggings! You can wear them to the gym, around the house, to school, and even work. As long as you have decent material, these pants can be worn to work. They are a step up from yoga pants without compromising comfort. These J.Crew leggings go for $39.50. JCrew Leggings

25 Days of Fashion: December 13

As every fashionista knows, our killer bodies don't just miraculously happen. Tough workouts and time at the gym give us our toned bodies and shapely booties. A key essential for every workout is a pair of sneakers. You need proper equipment to train properly and sneakers are quite versatile for all types of activities. These Nike sneakers go for $115. Nike Sneakers

25 Days of Fashion: December 12

It is a sad day, we are halfway through with our 25 days of Christmas! On our list today is a functional piece that everyone needs, rain boots. If you ever tried walking in the city while it's raining you will know why it is essential. Rain boots are a piece that you will always need, unfortunate since I hate the rain. Hunter rain boots are like rabbit breeding as soon as rain is in the forecast! I am loving these RED Valentino rain boots from Nordstrom for $195. The bow on them makes me smile even if the weather outside isn't. Valentino Rain Boots

25 Days of Fashion: December 11

Every girl needs this staple in their closet, a classic LBD!! Aka, the little black dress. It can't have any froof (my own word) or extras to it. It needs to be plain so you can add a little something to make it different. Whether it be a clutch or a piece of jewelry, they can add to your dress. This Topshop dress is sold for  $76. My suggestion, splurge on your LBD, they never go out of style. Topshop Little Black Dress

25 Days of Fashion: December 10

Today, we can appreciate a statement necklace that can transform any outfit. Put a killer necklace with a plain tank top and you are automatically ready for date night. Or put it with a simple dress to jazz it up. What I love about statement jewelry is that it can be so cheap to recreate an outfit. Forever 21 has an awesome statement necklace for $12.80! Great deal for a piece that can make an outfit go from plain to ah-ma-zing (three syllables needed). Forever 21 Statement Necklace

25 Days of Fashion: December 9

On the ninth day of this fashionable month, we were given peplum tops. I first saw Emma Stone rocking a peplum at a movie premiere a few summers ago. This year, they have caught everyone by storm from skirts, tops, and dresses. If you are on the smaller side it can give you an amazing shape. If you are fiercely real, it can highlight your tiny waist but make sure the peplum is on the smaller side. I love my peplum and you can rock it an any color. Pick up your own at Asos for $38.70.  Asos Peplum Top

25 Days of Fashion: December 8

Brown riding boots are on my list for December 8th. I need to counter-act some of my edge with a more classic, simple look. My brown riding boots are the perfect solution! I love having a bit of a heel, since no one ever looked back with a little lift. Plus it looks like I am Hamptons chic and know how to ride a horse, when in reality I have never even been on one. I can keep it casual with a jeans and tank or add a button up for some country chic. You can buy your own pair at DSW for $74.95. Unisa Riding Boots

25 Days of Fashion: December 7

On today's list we've decided to edge it up a bit with some motorcycle boots! Boots are a must have winter accessory and these black boots are killer. I love these because they are a little bit higher then the ankle and the lace up the front makes it seem much edgier. If I can't be a bad girl then I can at least pretend and look the part! You can buy a pair of motorcycle boots for yourself at DSW, Madden Girl, for $64.95. I love these because of the studs, really sets them apart. Madden Girl Motorcycle Boots

25 Days of Fashion: December 6

Today's gift of choice is a blazer. You cannot go wrong with a classic blazer. My suggestion, invest in a great blazer since they will never go out of style. They are perfect to dress up a pair of jeans or keep a pencil skirt professional. They are easy to layer with a button up or just wear a tank and a statement piece of jewelry. We are starting to get a bit more adventurous and colored blazers are totally in. You can purchase a classic black blazer from J.Crew for $98 (on sale). JCrew Blazer

25 Days of Fashion: December 5

We are already a fifth of the way through our fashion calendar. On this day, we are obsessing over leather jackets. I am in LOVE with my black (and an early gift of a brown) leather motorcycle jacket. If you don't own a leather jacket, can you really consider yourself a fashion badass? I love wearing mine to edge up any look. Wear it with a dress, pants, skirt, anything! It can work as outwear or as part of your outfit. You can purchase your own at Free People for $198 and it comes in silver/ black. Free People Leather Jacket

25 Days of Fashion: December 4

And on the fourth day of December, the fashion gods gave us fur vests! However, I do not want PETA protesters going against us so I suggest faux fur. Maybe, it's the inner Russian skating coach coming out in me but I am obsessed with fur vests! They are my favorite winter staple. The fur is super cozy and fuzzy but it's super chic as well. Plus they are super easy to add layering pieces too. I am digging this Free People fur vest for $168. You get a two for one deal since it's reversible, love! Free People Fur Vest

25 Days of Fashion: December 3

Today's style of the day is the jean button down. The jean button up is the hottest trend this fall. You can wear it plain or layer it with a sweater over it. I love how the jean look gives some edge to a plain button up.  Plus, everyone is adding their own flair to the ombre look or even polka dots. The perfect layering tool for these winter months. You can purchase your own at Madewell for $88. Madewell Jean Button-up

Fashion Recap: December 2, 2012

* As reported two weeks ago, Nicolas Ghesquiere left Balenciaga after fifteen years. His replacement has already been announced, according to WWD. The rumors are true, Alexander Wang is now the creative director of Balenciaga. *OMG moment!* I am very excited what Wang will come up with for his first runway show. His style runs in the family of sportswear and is much simpler campared to Nicolas. It will be quite a show to see if he sticks to his roots or goes out of his comfort zone to fit into Nicolas's style. SO glad fashion week isn't too far away, dying to see what he has worked up his well-tailored sleeve.
* The fashion yearbook has officially been printed. In other terms, Bing.com has released their most searched fashion stars of 2012. Rounding out as number one is Michael Kors. This may surprise some, but Michelle Obama did wear one of his dresses to celebrate the second term win or her husband. Also, he has opened stores up around the world, collaborated with various creative talent, has a line at Macy's, and donated $1million dollars to Sandy. Others on the list included: 2) Louis Vuitton 3) Gucci 4) Ralph Lauren 5) J. Crew 6) Chanel 7) Prada 8) Juicy Couture 9) Burbeery 10) Tory Burch.
* Marc Jacobs is used to controversy, and his latest commercial is no exception. Please be warned, this material may not be suited for all so please watch with at your own discretion. (Possibly without parents or colleagues around.) The video is called Marc Jacobs: Jack of all trades. Take one of those words from that sentence and that is what looks like is happening... In a park... With people. Then at the end he whips out, his sunglasses! This video is almost appalling yet humorous. It's like a gag commercial for high fashion!

* NYC window displays are officially dolled up for the holidays. NYC during the holidays is actually amazing. From the tree in Rock Center to the window displays at Saks or Bergdorfs. It could be described as magical. This past week, the tree went up, the tinsel was thrown, and the sparkly gowns were displayed in the windows. I am hoping to get a chance to go up 5th Ave to give you my own version of what these window displays are like. Be on the lookout for a window display blog!

25 Days of Fashion: December 2

Welcome to 25 Days of Fashion, December 2nd edition.
One of my obsessions is my leather skirt. Confession, when I first saw it I thought it was cheap and slutty. However, I tried it on and fell in LOVE. Leather makes you feel like a total badass but you can play with it to have a total different feel. I can wear mine with tights and a cute top or pair it with a comfy sweater. You can purchase one for yourself at Asos leather skirt for $43.98. What is amazing about this is the detailing on the side which will actually slim you down!

25 Days of Fashion: December 1

Hello!
I cannot believe it is already December and almost the holidays!! I love the holiday time and not just because I get to dress up. Every year, ABC has their 25 days of Christmas. I have decided to do my 25 days of Christmas, fashion style. I will give you twenty-five pieces that you have to own in your closet.
December 1:
These Mia flats go for $59 at Piperlime. I actually bought these for myself on black Friday and paid a lot less. Being in the city, I have to walk everywhere. There is no way I can walk all over in heels so I always have a pair of flats in my bag. What I love about these is the silver toe and the ankle strap. They turn a boring shoe into a fierce flat. With these, I won't have to change into my heels! Piperlime, Mia Flats

Thanksgiving hairstyle!!

Happy (late) thanksgiving to all! Thanksgiving is a time to spend with loved ones and eat a ton of food and pray you still fit into your skinny jeans by the end of the night. For me, the holidays are another reason to get dressed up! Thanksgiving I usually try to wear my bottom half on the bigger side or at least have stretchy fabric. For the days events, I wore black tights, a black leather mini skirt (thank god for extra give in the waist), and a mustard colored peplum top. I was hoping the flair from the peplum would hide any extra bulge.
This past week I've seen Kristen Stewart KILLING it on the red carpet for Breaking Dawn Part 2 premieres. You know the world must be ending when I follow what Kristen is wearing, JK. She can now be considered a style icon in my book. Definitely my most improved of the year! I saw her hair for the premiere and it was slicked on one side and curled on the other. I was/am obsessed and did this look for Thanksgiving. My extent of hair expertise is a pony or messy bun. I am just not capable at doing my hair styles but I decided to tried this look. SO EASY! I took a shower, blowed out hair, and parted it to the side. I put some hairspray to slick it down and bobby pins to keep it slicked. I even twisted the hair of the slicked side and the bobby pins held it in place. Next was just curling my hair. I scrunched it, some were loose, others tight, and it was all sort of messy chic. This is the outcome. Not bad right?! I can add this look to my repertoire. Totally obsessed.

I am thankful for: fashion edition!

Hello and happy Thanksgiving!!
Today is a day to spend with family and be thankful for all that you have. Of course, I am thankful for my friends, job, health and family. But being a 'fashionista' I am also thankful for killer fashion. Fashion is an expression of who we are but it can also make us feel good about ourselves. For this Thanksgiving I can add these things to my list of what I'm thankful for.
* A killer pair of heels. As the saying goes, "the higher the heel, the closer you are to heaven". I am a personal fan of heels, no matter how much pain I am in. There is something quite sexy about those few extra inches and the arch of your heel. Never mined, how they tone your calves and make your booty look ah-ma-zing (three syllables necessary).
* The perfect LBD. A black dress is a staple and will NEVER go out of style. You can dress it up with jewelry, down with a sweater, or edge it up with a motorcycle jacket. You will get wear out of this piece because it is so versatile. Plus, black makes you look skinnier!
* A statement piece. Every girl needs a statement piece of jewelry whether it be a necklace, ring, or earrings. They can make an outfit pop, draw attention to a certain body part, or adds to a simple outfit. Best part, you can find statement pieces in a range of prices.
* A timeless piece of jewelry. For me, this is my Tiffany necklace that has a heart saying "dream a little dream" and an ice skate charm. This piece I have worn almost every day and if I ever lost it I would probably cry. Every girl needs a piece that they can't leave the house without or has a special meaning behind it.
* The bag that holds everything. Being a city girl and bag lady, I need a bag that holds everything from my cell phone to my laptop. You need a bag that can hold all of it without breaking and is still stylish. This is a bigger challenge then it seems so when you find the perfect bag it is a miracle.
* The most comfortable pair of sweats. Yes, I know sweats aren't a fashion statement. However, everyone needs comfortable clothes. If I'm not going out, I stay in my yogas or sweats, no exceptions. I stole a pair of my brothers sweats and I wear them constantly! For the times you don't need to dress up, one may as well be comfortable.

November 11, 2012 Fashion recap

Hello Fashionista's!
I am going to try to do a weekly or bi-weekly fashion recap. It may be a little early, but I want to set a 'new years goal' of trying to stay up with the trends. As Heidi Klum says, "One day you're in, the next you're out," the same goes for trends. I'm going to keep you up to date on what's going on and what's hot. As the business people I commute with are reading the newspaper, I'll be catching up on Vogue & WWD! ;)
*Nicolas Ghesquière has left Balenciaga after fifteen years with the company. One may say that he even created Balenciaga to be the company that it is today. His Spring 2013 RTW collection was amazing (if I do say so myself). From the cutouts of the pieces to the ruffle and geometric shapes of the skirts were breathtaking. The rumor mill is saying his depature is due to finances and how commerically driven the line has become. Some are saying that Nicolas may be starting his own line. He has created a name for himself and his designs are truly inspiring, with some funding I believe he could make it happen. The hot gossip piece, besides Nicolas's departure, is who will succeed him. Rumor has is that the edgy designer, Alexander Wang, is a hot target. Whoever takes his Nicolas's place will have a large runway to fill!
* Alexander McQueen gave us a backstage view of their Spring 2013 collection. McQueen is a designer on my bucket list who I want to own. The Spring collection was no exception! From the veiled headpieces to the bustier tops, it was pure ingenious craziness. For them to show a video backstage lets the outsider, get an inside perspective, on what truly goes on. From trying to get the models dressed to sewing each piece onto a garmet. McQueen shows how fashion is an art form.
* Check out the website https://www.materialwrld.com/account/ .This website gives you the chance to look into CEO's, PR girls, and the fashionable social media girls closet. It was co-founded by Rei Yano & Jie Zheng who went to Harvard Business School. You can even go through these fashion guru's closet to see what they are selling. I love how I can get style inspiration by getting a sneak peak in their closets and even have a chance to purchase some of the items! Fab
*All shopaholics must download this app called PS Dept. This app gives you your own personal shopper inside your phone. (And they say smart phones can't do everything ;) You type in the product you want and it sends it out to every store associate across the country. They let you know the availability of the item and you can either have it shipped or pick it up at the store. Michelle Goad, previously at Marc Jacobs, created this app. During her time at Marc Jacobs, she encountered many sales associates. She wanted a way for the 'girl on the go' to get what they need without having to wait/ drive to the store.

"Lexa Likes" the new Gap concepts!!

Gap Inc is a large corporation that features Piperlime, Old Navy, Athleta, and Banana Republic.  Recently, Gap has made headlines as they have made many changes from their executive team, media concept, and a new trends.
* Over the past several months, Gap has hired a new group of executives and redone their management team. This is a huge deal in the retail world! You know that when the executive team is being changed, the company is trying to do something new.
* One would have to assume this executive change is due to the company trying to change its ways. It was announced that by the 2013 fiscal year, Gap, Banana Republic, and the Old Navy brands will be lead by a single executive to reach a new level of global brand management. With over 3,200 stores in 40 countries, the Gap Inc has been expanding and going global. The goal is to blend the divisions of North American, international, online, outlet, and franchises to improve their market.
* Gap Inc is the first to take ad space on Metro cards. The front of the card says "Be Bright NYC" and the back gives you 20% to the store. This is a FAB way to get "plastic retail estate" or "commercial ad space". Gap has recently redone their store on 34th and Broadway so this was an ingenious way to get their name out as they are trying to get customers into this store. These subway cards are available at ten stations which were selected to their proximity to the stores and the frequency of riders.
Working in the city, has made me become a subway rider. If I can get a discount at Gap for riding the subway then I am all in! The blue and yellow subway card may be iconic for NY but in this age of advertising it is another way to get your company name out. The majority of NYers/ tourists use public transportation and will be using a subway card. It is a great way for these companies to get their name out since everyone flashes their subway card to get through those turn tiles. Every time you want to ride the subway you will be reminded of Gap, then how you have a 20% discount and will want to go shopping!
* Gap has yet another shocker for an industry that is obsessed with youth: their average customer is 39 years old! It is no secret that the fashion industry and retailers cater to the younger generation, this age is considered "old" for this industry. For a retailer to come out and say this average age can be suprising but refreshing. 39 is NOT old, many women are just starting a new journey in their life at this age. With the economy in shambles, most people are not becoming successful until their 30's. Also, most people are waiting to start families and a 39 year old can have a baby/ toddler without it being frowned upon. Much kudos to Gap for being loud and proud for their average customer being 39. They are being business smart since by that age more people are just becoming successful and are able to spend money. With most adults being parents, Gap offers them to shop for themselves (their look is more clean and professional) as well as their kids.
* Yet another change coming from Gap: a new website! I admit, I am not a frequent online shopper/ browser of Gap. However, when I found out that they had a new website I had to check it out. When I opened their home page, I was greeted with this eye candy! Always a great thing to see when you first open the webpage. I have to say, I really am loving their website. I found it clean and easy to find whatever you were looking for. Also, they have all their other brands at the top that brought you to that website. I am a fan of that feature so I know what their other brands are part of the company.
Gap definitely seems to be revamping its image! Between the subway cards and target age group, their business plan is fascinating. Their advertisement techniques and these new execs could bring the company back to the top of its game!

Terrain

This past week, I took a field trip out to Westport, CT to visit a shop called Terrain. Terrain is actually a garden+ outdoor store. Along with home decor and garden supplies, they sell jewelry and accessories. Not only will you be able to plant your orchids, you'll be able to look fierce while doing it!
Terrain is actually a division of the mega-brand URBN. URBN brands include Urban Outfitters, Anthropology, and Free People. So far, Terrain only has locations in Westport, CT and Glen Mills, PA. I've been fortunate enough to go to the URBN headquarters and Terrain keeps with that same rustic concept. You walk around the store and it is all wood with hints of hardware decorations and pipings. The theme of the store is very natural and verdant. Terrain is like the "cool kids" version of a home and garden store!
The space of the store in Westport is quite large. The interior is all open spaced with sections diverted to  home decor, plants, and accessories. It is finally starting to feel like fall and the store embraced that with the large display of pumpkins. The colors of greens, oranges, and yellows in the plants embraced the upcoming fall colors. Along with the indoor space, there was a patio filled with all types of plants and an area of outdoor seating for the restaurant. What made this store extra special was that it had a restaurant/ cafe in it. They had a cafe with pastries, expresso bar, and sandwiches. The other option was to have a sit-down meal. I was part of a lunch meeting and we made reservations for the restaurant. We were seated outside but the fall weather came a bit early. The winds started to pick up, the rain drops started to fall, and black clouds rolled in. The restaurant quickly got us a table inside. (Thankfully the rain didn't ruin anyone's hair!) Tables were placed near the cafe and into the store to accommodate every customer. The store has enough space that even with a few extra tables nobody felt confined. The food was delicious though! I had a grilled chicken salad and my other lunch goers had burgers. The food was really fresh, the colors on the plate were vibrant, and it tasted wonderful.
Cafe
For anyone that is interested in gardening then this is a must-stop place! They had an abundance of plants for everyone's tastes. The home supplies fit into the trend of being natural and whimsical. If neither of these fits your needs and your more of a fashionista, their accessories section is for you. The accessories keep with this rustic theme from canvas totes, printed scarves, and pendant jewelry. This store gives you such inspiration from all the smells and colors. The fashionista's and gardeners of the world can all appreciate this store. It's a must to plan a field trip to one of their stores!
Terrain is on "Lexa Likes" list!
